Max, Mister Max, Meester, Pumpkin, Boo, Little Man, Little Buddy and yes the odd time Monster. You are forever in my heart.
Words can't describe the agony of losing a soul as sweet as Mr Max at such a young age. Just over 4 years ago I visited GRA just to see the kennel and decide if it was the place I'd find my next companion. Greeted by Bill I was invited to meet a few houndies. Eventually I'd be looking for a girl but not white. My beautiful white shepherd girl had passed just a few months earlier, just short of 14 years. I met a few girls but didn't click with any. That was okay as I wasn't sure I was ready any ways. Boys on the left, girls on the right. I walked down the aisle looking at the girls but something or someone drew my eyes to the left. There, with his head through the bent bars was a beautiful white and fawn face, ears up, calling to me. "I'd like to meet him", I remember saying. Bill said, I have another couple coming to pick up, why don't you take him for a walk.
It was definitely love at first meeting. He was a calm boy with a wonderful personality. I called my parents to bring out their little Westie to ensure he'd be okay. But, secretly it didn't matter. Mr Max was meant to be with me. Bill observed Max and said he'd be fine...whew. Kaylie, aka Track Bait, was well tolerated by Mr Max. He could never understand the terrier mentality of go go go but they got along well.
He settled in well and was a perfect gentleman. Everyone loved Mr Max and he was a wonderful ambassador for greyhounds. He'd do anything for cheese and my new husband was able to teach him to sit in one afternoon after I'd been trying for a year and had given up. He just needed a daddy to help him.
Max completed our little family. We were so lucky to have him in our lives for 4 years. While we lost him way too early we know we did everything humanly possible to help him before helping him to the bridge where he would be pain free.
Run free sweet Mr Max. You are forever in our hearts. We love you. Thank you for sharing your retirement with us.
finding the bed...
with Track Bait at the cottage...
in the backyard scouting for bunnies...
just pain handsome...
one of the thousands of laps around the yard...
might have been peanut butter involved...
running with some friends...
just looking handsome...
and even more handsome...
Thank you for sharing your retirement with us little buddy. Forever in our hearts. Mr Max, Malibu Max, we love you.
