Today whilst walking Michel we came upon a large group of children with their mothers and grandmothers, Michel was put in her stand/wait while they passed. I'm accustomed to hearing things like 'what a beautiful dog' or 'what breed is she?' NOT what I heard from this group of people -- they were all excited as they proclaimed 'oh look a Chihuahua!' How could anyone confuse my elegant, quiet and rather large greythound for a tiny noisy excuse for a dog is beyond me. I'm still shaking my head and chuckling.

A man (who owned a dog, so obviously wasn't totoally dog clueless) asked if Teague was a Dalmation (note: he is a red greyhound) The usual I get is a Whippet, or a Great Dane. I don't know what is worse, a chihuahua or a Dalmation! lol

I have only had Dino for 2 weeks...but I too have gotten great dane and a few people who do not believe me when I tell them he is a grey. they think either because of his coloring (Brindle), size (he's on the larger side) or his calm demeanor mean that he can't possibly be a greyhound. We're from brantford and I think there is only a handfull of them here,

I have a friend who was conviced Knoxville was a whippet. I sent him Knox's statistics, I think that shut him up. He still hasn't met him too truly appreciate his size. Mostly people in my area ask what kind of dog he is and it usually ends with, "what a beautiful dog", I have to agree.
Anyone who would think a greyhound is a dalmation or a chihuahua obviously doesn't know anything about dogs.

People are funny!!! When I take Liza Jane out she often is referred to as a HYENA - probably because she is brindle, has a black face, walks with her head down (maybe she doesn't have self esteem) after all the comments BUT on our walks I talk to her and tell her to hold her head up high, and let her know beautiful she is....

Here I thought wally was the only domesticated hyena around. He will be happy to hear he isn't alone.

Well, Sunny has Dalmatian ears and Rain is quite tiny and could be mistaken for a large whippet and Stormy looks a deer which has lost its antlers - but none of them could be mistaken for a Chihuahua - at least by anyone with any sense at all. (Nor a hyena!!)

Another saga with breed confusion or should I say species confusion. We were visiting family in Windsor and sitting on my bother-in-law's deck when his neighbour came outside because he thought there was a deer in the back yard -- said deer was Michel! Being mistaken for a deer makes more sense than being mistaken for a chihuahua. Do we need to make signs for our pups to wear saying 'I am a Greythound"?

Leo's gotten hyena as well! When he first came home, I heard a few people ask what kind of ANIMAL he was (or "is that a dog?"!!) People also state he looks like a tiger (which he does in colouring, he's red brindle), but others say he looks like a lion (I've found out that many people don't know their big cats!)
Leo's gotten Great Dane quite often as well; Leo is very big and tall and I've seen a few brindle Great Danes with the red brindle colouring so other than the head, I could see why people say that.
People so often say things like "wow, that's a rare colour for a greyhound" (of course it's not) or "I've never seen a brindle greyhound before, I've only ever seen grey greyhounds" which of course can't be true, with "grey" (blue) being so rare!''
Chihuahua though?! ;D Either they didn't know dogs or made a mistake and said the wrong thing (or were being sarcastic!)

Yes my red-fawn girl often gets mistaken for a whippet - she is short but at 71lbs that would be one heck of a whippet! I haven't seen many whippets in my days, but the ones I have seen have always been brindled or spotted (cow dogs). I've heard small children tell there parents "Look mommy! That lady is walking a deer" Just last weekend a newcomer to the horse farm asked "who owns the Great Dane?" But usually it's just "oh what a beautiful dog" ;D

All the kids in the neighbourhood think Force is a tiger. The funniest one I got was on a day when Rudy bolted the front door wearing her PJ's. I went running up the street after her although she was WAY ahead of me. A lady saw me running with an empty leash in my hand and she said 'are you looking for the great dane puppy wearing a dress?'. I had to laugh - Rudy a great dane - maybe with another 100lbs!

One of my neighbours told me a funny one last year. She looked out her window and saw "Holly" in our driveway. Our car was gone (I was at work) so she went out to catch her and put her into the backyard but "Holly" bolted away. Wasn't until then that she realized she was thinking of chasing down a deer!
I was asked if Hector was a Pit Bull once. I mean, really? I know, dark brindle and all but everything else about him was pretty much opposite. That would be one tall, skinny, Pit!
