I found pigs tails and all 3 dogs were very impressed, they aren't as thick as the feet, seem easier for them to deal with

I have given pig tails, too. Summer loved them but I wouldn't call them a lengthy chew, if that's what anyone is looking for. It doesn't take her very long to polish one off.

Newest suggestion from the Professional greyhound folks - "dried sweet potato strips". Apparently they're great tooth cleaners. Also deer antlers but at $10.00 each they're out of our budget. We do have access to lots of turkey necks. As for pigs feet, our girls are like Lola, don't like the thick skin. We cut through the skin in several places on the last lot of pigs feet and that went over better. I'll have to see about a bag of those sweet potato stripes. I did pick them up and wondered how well they'd work. The pigs feet/tails - do you ask a butcher for these items or are they on the shelf to pick up like you would any other meat?

The pig tails that I found were just on the shelf in the pet store. They're a dried kind of thing. They're not curly like you'd think but straightened out and kind of puffed. Dunno about the pig feet, I'm curious about that one, too.

I keep thinking i have to go see a butcher. lol thank you! i'm going go check out the pet store here.

The piigs feet and pigs tails that I'm feeding are raw, I get them in the meat counter by the tray, at my local metro. The tails I feed frozen so its a nice long chew, its part of their meal generally unless a mid afternoon snack

My mom accidently bought the sweet potato chews (thinking they were meat strips!) and I have yet to find a dog that will eat them. I fed them to the bunnies lol If you have a dog that will eat anything though, give them a go. I get tails, hocks (the best!) and feet at our local IGA grocery store. I also like getting the meaty beef or pork ribs, they last for quite a while. I know it must be hard if you are vegan, but the way I look at it, I am using up the "waste" products from the meat that humans normally wouldn't want to eat. So in a way, the animal isn't being wasted and all the parts are eaten.

I've heard that dogs don't much care for the sweet potato strips, too. I'm not going to try them with Summer, she's not a chow hound so she probably wouldn't eat them. And milo78, there's lots of things you can treat your hound with that doesn't require actual rawness. Just be careful with some of the smoked bones (the ones in the pet store with the really strong smoky smell) -- sometimes they can leave stains on pale carpeting if you give them inside so I'd recommend outside if you want to give those. Have you tried Camp Greyhound for their natural dehydrated treats? She has some wonderful stuff! -- Summer particularly loves her Ankle Biters (dehydrated tendon).

While i was out killing time during Milo's alone training i picked up some more snacks for him. DentaStix, Organic Salmon Jerky, and MilkBones. He went to town on his DentaStix. I was worried he'd gulp it down like he does his kibble. He did good though On average how many milkbones do you all give your grey's? I've been going easy on the snacks/treats so i don't set off his tummy.

I give one cookie at bedtime (be it a MilkBone or whatever the brand d'jour is). I give her one tendon in the evening and maybe half a dentastix or perhaps a kong filled with little kibbles, broken cookies and a glob of peanut butter. If she's bugging me during the day, I might give her another tendon or a pig ear. And there's always a few little bits of cheese (if I'm eating any myself) and some dehydrated liver or lung.

He gulps his food up like there is no tomorrow. He makes me feel like i starve him. I gave him a few tiny training pcs snacks today, dentastix milkbone and a couple small yogurt cranberry cookies.
when he's fed in the morning and evening he normally walks back to where his food bin is stored several times. He was starting to pace near supper time so i gave him a snack to hold him over. I wonder if this is a bad thing to do? I asked Bill how much he fed him - he was getting about 2 cups of food 2 times a day.
I'm used to having a dog who grazes throughout the day. This is a completely different experience for me.

I think you would find that after a while the better treats at the pet store really add up and are very expensive compared to the treats that camp greyhound has which are also far better quality.

You'll figure out how much to feed him. It all depends on his activity level and what food you are feeding. No one can really tell you as all the dogs and their foods are different. FYI, Summer gets 2 1/2 cups of kibble for breakfast (moistened) and for dinner, she gets 1/2 a large can of meat. If she was exercised that day, she'll also get a big handful of kibble in with her dinner. If he's too thin, just feed a little more. I've discovered with these guys, that even 1/4 cup of kibble can make the difference between that rib being covered vs the rib sticking out, LOL.

I had these two pups weighed at the vet last week, they are both still at their retiring weight, spot on...I guess they are just going to have that skinny look

You can also give raw chicken and duck feet. Your pup will love it! Here's Summer enjoying her first ever raw chicken foot.
