Satin balls were a fantastic weight gain fix for Rudy when she first came home. She was pretty picky then about what she'd eat but NEVER turned her nose up to them. And they got the weight on pretty quickly. No fake ingredients either, with most items already in my kitchen cupboards

We added 'Tripe' to Bandit's kibble when she was feeling under the weather and refused to eat. She gobbled it up like it was candy. We use Lamb Tripe, but you can get beef. We still give her and Billie a spoonful mixedin with their kibble. At 11 and 14, they deserve the tasty little extras!

I've recently been adding some canned tripe to my guys' kibble as well. I've been getting the Merrick brand of beef tripe and a black labeled can that is 96% green tripe. My pack goes wild for it ... even the smell turns them on!! And since it's only a tablespoon or two that is added to their meal, there haven't been any "runs" either.

Where do you get the canned tripe? I've asked a couple of different times at PetSmart and they apparantly don't sell it.

Also, scrambled eggs with cheese whiz. Nasty, but a lot of dogs that won't eat gobble it down. Didn't have as good a track record with that as the A/D hamburger mix, but still a good try.

I get our canned Tripe at Global in Kingston....the label actually reads 'Tripet'. Pet Smart here does not sell it either. We use the Lamb Tripe as they eat Kirklands Lamb/rice kibble, but last time I was there it was backordered, so I got beef tripe with Salmon. We've had no problems with switching from Lamb to Beef...like angelollie says...it's only very small amount in with the kibble. Mmmmm.

Thanks, yes, there's a Global nearby. I will check for the tripe.

we also add a tablespoon of tripe mix from Awesome Paws to our Greys' kibble...after we went away for a week the first time in October, Willy especially had lost a lot of weight (he can't handle being away from his "mommy"), and we needed to beef him up quickly. He is not a dog who can afford to lose weight at the best of times, anyway. The pups go nuts for the stuff. We add a bit of water to it to make a bit of "gravy" and spread the taste over all of the kibble, and they gobble it all down!
We just made the switch to the Kirkland food. Merlin has not been doing well on the Proplan Lamb/rice, and after two months, we figure he should be doing better, so time to try another food. He checked out fine with the vet, so we as far as we know he doesn't have any worms...we aren't seeing any in his poop, anyway, and his tests were clean. Let's hope this food works for all the pups...

I use both the canned tripe and also the real raw stuff....both smell disgusting (I think the canned is actually a bit worse...or at least more slimy! ). The smell makes me gag, but the dogs love it. Even my VERY picky Karma who won't eat any canned dog or cat food, tuna, sardines, etc. comes running for it. It is supposedly very healthy as well with omega 3's and enzymes, so it is a good natural supplement for kibble. Most dogs eat by smell rather then taste so it is a great supplement to overpower the smell of boring kibble! lol I think you can get Tripe at some PetValu's but Global's always has it. I now get the venison tripe from there.

ownedbysummer, I've been picking up my canned tripe at Pet Valu but I've only found two different kinds. One can is by Merrick and is called "Working Dog Stew", containing beef tripe, green apples, sweet potatoes. The other is a can called BC (before grain), is a black can with lime green writing and says it contains 96% tripe. Both sure do smell. Each can is about $3.49. Many Pet Valu stores also carry frozen blocks of tripe.

Thanks! PetValu is easier for me than Global and now I know exactly what I'm looking for.

Just googled the stuff. BG is also made by Merrick. Sneaky companies!

There is also a fairly new company out that is in a few stores in Ontario - all the products are Ontario meats, including 100% lamb or beef tripe. I think they might even have elk as well but not sure. Here is the link to the store listings - I think there is also a list of food products offered somewhere on the site as well. www.boldraw.com/wheretobuy.html
