In honor of my sweet Angel, born Akin's Angel, November 14, 1999 to June 25, 2009, age 9 1/2 years.
Angel came into my life quite by surprise. In 2005, after pouring over the GRA website, I chose a beautiful male brindle, but when I arrived at the kennel, this little imp of a girl with a crooked broken leg and funny floppy ears, just kept staring as if to say, " pick me, pick me". Her persistence paid off. I couldn't resist that funny little face and curious personality and so homeward bound we were; different hound, different sex, different colour.
From that first day, Angel and I seemed to have created this wonderful bond. I could talk a blue streak and she would just sit so patient and listen to me natter away, as if she understood every word. If I felt sad, she was there to console me, if I acted silly, she was silly too. But Angel was not always the perfect "angel" ... she was a garbage picker and would steal food when no one was looking. One of her little idiosyncrasies was this hop, skip and jump, followed by a goofy head shake that made Angel the loveable little girl she was. I was so proud of her.
She loved her brothers, Ollie and Willy, but was subtle in making it known she was the boss lady in their world. All it took was "the look" and they knew it was time to cool it. And yet, she was there hovering over them, as if she was their mama.
Unfortunately, Angel developed hepatitis this Spring. Treatment was going well with positive test results. But within 24 hrs. of her weekly hep checkup, something went terribly wrong, Angel took a turn for the worst and passed away that evening. I held her close until she crossed over.
Although I posted Angel's passing the following morning, I felt a need to honor my sweet girl thanking her for all the joy, happiness, love and companionship she brought to me and my family. She was a real sweetheart in the true sense and I painfully miss her so much. My sweet girl, you will forever be in my heart and soul.
