Tarra (Oke Tara) January 15, 2002 - July 7th, 2016 We had to say goodbye to our little T today. At 14 1/2 Tarra's health had been slipping over the past 8 months. Our senior girl fought hard and was the most stoic animal I have ever known. Today we made the hardest decision ever to help her cross the bridge. My heart is in pieces and I am beside myself with sadness. That little 60 pound girl filled every inch of my heart with so much joy. T came to live with us almost 5 years ago from Wheeling Downs racetrack in West Virginia where she raced in the highest grade for greyhound racing. Her career ended when she broke her leg but she was used as a breeding dog until she was 9. When T-bone first came to live with us at the age of 9 1/2 she had just had her last litter of pups, she had fleas, worms and was terrified of the new life ahead of her. In time she came to trust us, she started to take treats from our hands, would seek affection, ran with pure abandon when given the opportunity, enjoyed many stays at Camp Greyhound with her Auntie Karen and started enjoying her retired life. She deserved that and much, much more. Tarra gave us her love and today she took our hearts with her as she crossed the bridge to run pain free once again. Rest easy sweet T.

I am so, so saddened to read this. Tarra was, indeed, a Forum favorite. Her will, her joy, her strength, (and her adorable ears),were an inspiration. Thank you very much for sharing her legacy over the years. We have all been enriched.
My heart aches for what you are going through now. It is never, ever long enough. Take care of yourselves and know many thoughts are with you... and always know you gave her a wonderful life... made whole because of your love.
God speed sweet Tarra.

Barb, Jason, I'm so incredibly sorry it was time for Tarra to go to the bridge. What a wonderfully long life she had and of course the best years were at home with you. It's never long enough. Cherish the wonderful memories you have and she will always be with you.
Run free beautiful Tarra.

Barb, Jason and Finn ....So sorry for the passing of your sweet baby Tarra. She was a very special little girlie with a busy agenda .... nice racing career, awesome momma to several litters and finally as a senior, she came to spend the remainder of her life with your family. And what an awesome life it was. Your photos and updates of her showed how much she was loved. Hopefully in time, T's memories will shine through and take away the sadness. Godspeed sweet girl.

Thank you for your kind words everyone. My heart is still aching over the loss of Tarra. She was a special soul and I wasn't ready to say goodbye. She was gentle and sweet and I wish I had more time with her. I hope she is running fast and free at the bridge.

Barb and Jason,
I am so sorry for your loss. Tarra was such a sweet girl, I wish you had more time with her too. I still remember her dunking her head in a water pail looking for hot dogs at one of the GRA picnics...she was sooo cute. It never matters how old they are, they are never with us long enough. I'm sure she enjoyed every minute of her life with you two, what a great retirement she had.
