Hello GRA folks! I'm Jordan, a greyhound lover, but not yet owned by one. I grew up with Border Collies and labs and while they were a great fit for my family as a child and into my 20's, I have ALWAYS loved the quiet regalness of greyhounds. I have known many by way of friends and family who were lucky enough to be owned by one or more. It's almost my time. I have 2 daughters and a dog-friendly kitty who are eager to add a new pup to our family. Our most recent pup passed away at the lovely age of 11, she was actually a Mountain Cur who fell into our laps after a friend passed away. Still currently grieving that loss, so we are waiting a bit before adopting again.
We are in Clarington, ON. An hour east of Toronto, but my In Law's live about 20 minutes away from GRA, so I am very eager to visit them again and hopefully make an appt to pop in and meet the dogs.
I have bought and read through a few 'adopting retired racing greyhound' type books, including For Dummies and Cynthia Branigan's book. I am not picky about colour, size, sex but do hope to find a pup closer to 2 or 3 years old.
Very much looking forward getting to know the GRA family and hopefully soon take home my own new family member.

Welcome to the wonderful world of greyhounds and the “GRA Family”. We also had border collies and labs throughout our life and four years ago we were introduced to the wonderful world of greyhounds. I adore and love all breeds of dogs, but once you have a greyhound – you will never look back. Great to have you and we all look forward to your “in the future adoption” of this fabulous breed.

Welcome Jordan! Sorry to hear of the loss of your family pet - she will always have a special place in your hearts.
GRA is a wonderful group! We lurked as well after the loss of our first grey. We had adopted Deva when we lived in NS through GPAC and after we moved back here she passed away. A few months later (I don't know how we lasted that long!) we needed a greyhound fix. We made an appt 'just to look at the dogs'. Ha!! So many people say that and sign papers before they leave the kennel! We adopted our Bella from GRA in 2009 and after we lost her, we adopted Holly. We will soon add Bently to our family ... it's so true that once you own a grey, you'll never go back - in fact, you may adopt more than one!! Congratulations on joining the GRA family and enjoy the adoptables page! Danielle

Thank you so much for the kind welcome, everyone. I must admit to being very eager to have puppy love back in the house. It's my husband who is wanting to wait. But we'll see how he holds up when we visit. He's mush for big brown eyes.

You will be happy to know that there is a Galloping Greyhounds Playgroup that meets on Sunday afternoons in Burkton - Old Scugog Rd and Boundary Rd. They have a website and a facebook page. They run in a big fenced horse field and have the use of a barn during winter and foul weather.
Renee Cotton is the organizer - it's a great group. I, however, have only been twice - only because of the distance and other commitments.
Maybe we'll run into each other there sometime!!!

It is a real pleasure to read of your plans to welcome a pup into your home! I will look forward to reading the news that you have been to GRA!! (no doubt you will fall in love while there ) (Do realize it's a difficult time after the loss of a beloved pup....but Greyhounds are amazing at helping to mend broken hearts.

Welcome to GRA forums! So sorry about the loss of your girl. I know what it is like to wait after a pet loss and did exactly the same before adopting my first grey. I was very sad and thought I would feel that sadness for a very long time before I could allow another furkid into my life but getting my hound sooner than I had expected was the best thing I did as it put that special kind of love back in my life that only animals can bring us. I have a feeling that after a visit to GRA your husband will waver on the waiting part. LOL I lurked these forums for almost 3 years until I got my first and I had it all planned out how and when I would get one. None of that happened as I had planned and within 2 days I went from "I will get a greyhound in the Springtime when my fence is finished" to bringing him home! You will just know when you meet "your" dog. And I doubt it will be as planned as you think and that is part of the wonderful nature of being adopted by these amazing dogs! I can;t wait to see who you will make part of your family! Maybe even two.....

Hi Jordan .... welcome to the forum and the greyhound community. The greyhounds on the Adoptables page are from Florida, are absolutely beautiful pups and there should be a nice mix of ages. Are you aware there is a greyhound reunion this Sunday, Oct 5th, 1100 to 3:00 at the kennel. You just won't see the new hounds that are up for adoption but all those hounds who have been adopted in the past. It truly is amazing to see so many hounds in one place. You can also take the hounds out for a walk ... there is a laneway leading to a lake behind the kennel. But if it's not possible to make it this Sunday, any day is good. Looking forward to hearing what hound goes home with you ... we love updates and photos.
So sorry for the loss of your girl, such a handsome breed of dog. I bet she had a wonderful life with you and your family.

I am a bit behind in reading the posts, but welcome to the Forum. I am sad to hear of the loss of your girl. we all know how heartbreaking it is. You may have already made your visit to see the pups. I have to agree with the post above where it says once you have had a grey in your life, it's hard to ave any other. They are so special and soulful.
Hope you wait is no a long one.

Welcome Jordan! I'm sorry to read about losing your pup. Even though we know we will lose them some day it's still so hard.
Just tell your husband you want to check out the kennel. I just went to visit and you just can't leave without one! lol
