We were very blessed to have been adopted by a wonderful fellow currently named "Ref". (We are thinking of changing it, but it is still up for discussion.) What a wonderful experience we had at GRA with Heather. We took our 4 year old Scottie with us, hoping we could find a match. I met Ref first as he came out into the courtyard and he ran right up to me and gave me kisses and was such a sweet boy. I think it was love at first sight for both of us. We looked at a couple of other wonderful greyhounds, but every time we walked into the building Ref would not take his eyes off me, so we tried to introduce him to the Scottie and see where we went from there.
In the turnout yard with his muzzle on Ref took one look at the Scottie and acted like they were old friends and just played very gentle and careful with her. Within a few short minutes it was clear to see both dogs were very happy in each others company. The then ferret test to see if we had hopes of introducing the cat to him once he comes home. I am thrilled to say he passed the ferret test with flying colours and can only hope he will make the smooth transition once he is ready for pick-up.
We are very excited and grateful to have been granted the awesome privilege to share our home with such a wonderful fellow. I shall keep you all posted when he makes the journey to our home and the awaiting sofa!
Thanks again Heather! And thanks to my wonderful "non-animal" loving (LOL...he is truly a softy and has a massive heart for animals though he would be hard pressed to admit it) husband Bob! Of all the gifts he gives me, it is the 4 paws and beating hearted ones that mean the most and remind me with their presence that I am truly a blessed woman!
Cheers! PJ

What an absolutely beautiful post! Your experience with Ref is only just the beginning of a long and wonderful journey, one you will cherish for sure! As for Heather and the gang at GRA, they make the whole experience even better! :)M

Congratulations on being adopted by Ref!!!!! He's an awesome hound. He was in the running to come home with us but 'Speed' (now known as Finn) ended up choosing us.
It sounds like Ref was waiting for you and yours.
Please do keep us posted and share lots of photos!!

CONGRATULATIONS - I am so happy for you and your family on opening up your hearts and home to Ref. I am sure he will bring you so much love and he will win your hubby over in no time!!!! You brought tears to my eyes when you mentioned this: "Of all the gifts he gives me, it is the 4 paws and beating hearted ones that mean the most and remind me with their presence that I am truly a blessed woman!" It is absolutely beautiful and I know it came from the bottom of your heart. Welcome to the Forum - it is the best!!!

Thanks so much Hound Haven, Jason, and Gablenliza...your words of welcome and support mean so very much. Jason it sounds like Ref was on a few short lists. I have never had such an instant connection with a dog, it was a matter of seconds as he walked towards me that we both just knew.
When I look at Hound Haven's avatar, I worry that Greyhounds are like Potato Chips and you can't have just one!
And Gablenliza...this greyhound was long awaited for. It is good to find a place to share thoughts and ask questions!
Thanks again.

Warmest congratulations on finding Ref,... and he finding you! It appears the meeting was 'destined to be' by the first moments. How wonderful and magical it is to feel that 'total knowing' in a glance . It also sounds like Ref and your lovely Scotty girl had a quick connection too. It makes me smile to hear such wonderful new beginnings. I wish you all the best as you welcome your handsome new boy home.

Congratulations! Ref is such a lovely, handsome and sweet boy. I'm so thankful he chose your family. He was very well behaved on the ride to the vet this morning (if he only knew). Lol. I know he is looking forward to the next chapter as a retiree! Kathryn

Congratulations on being picked by Ref. Him and his Scotty girlfriend look great together. Your post was very heartwarming and from the heart!
Can't wait to hear more stories of his home coming.
Have to say greyhounds are like chips and many of us have dipped more than once.

What a beautiful post re your experience at GRA kennels. I found it so touching. Heather and all the volunteers at the kennel have certainly the best interest of each greyhound at heart and want so much for both hound and family to be a perfect match. Rory is a stunning boy, enjoy all the "firsts" as Rory settles into his new retirement.
