Hi everyone,
I just wanted to give a quick update on Jester (AKA: Remane, AKA: Liver sausage thief)
Day 1 - July 11, 2014: Happy gotcha day, he jumped into the back of the car like a champ, panted all the way home over 3 hours on a crappy drive
We (my friend and I, plus Jester) got into the city and proceeded to a do it yourself dog wash, he stood perfectly still even for the blow dryer. Jester managed to bonk his head into the glass window of the shop and learned a valuable lesson, whilst providing us and staff with a good laugh. Upon getting home, he walked around the apartment a little, checked out the balcony (yay, not afraid of heights) and found his crate in the bedroom, he appeared happy with his condo, but managed to remake his bed.
He also took a bite off a houseplant, urinated on it and the subwoofer sitting beside it, all in a matter of 3.5 seconds, very impressive sir
Day 2
We took a nice walk through High Park, I put his muzzle on and took him into the trails and off leash area, he didn't lunge into the other dogs at all, and he was amazing on the leash. In the evening I took him to the outer steps of the subway station, which he took to like a champ
Day 3
I met up with my friend and her dogs, one is a Yorkie, the other a Rottweiler mix. While we were walking he swiped the legs from under the Yorkie but didn't make much of an attempt to lunge, there was no quivering on the lips or drooling. About 30 minutes later he no longer cared about the Yorkie and managed to be tethered to a fence with the two other dogs without incident. It was interesting to see the Rottweiler completely calm around Jester as he is usually VERY hyperactive, he completely took on his energy. Also, I haven't seen much of a pray drive beyond what I've seen with other dogs, and he doesn't seem to care much for squirrels, he did notice two groundhogs in High Park last night that got him curious, but what dog wouldn't be. Regardless, I'm still carrying his coursing muzzle with us
So far he has managed to steal some liverwurst from my balcony table, urinate on audio equipment and counter surfed a little, hardly anything to get upset over and quite frankly really hilarious. I've also noticed how much this dog loves the water, he knocked over a water bowl and laid down on the water to cool down.
Here's the link to his folder on photo bucket and on this board:

Sounds like you guys are having a great time getting to know each other. He sounds like he is settling in nicely. One note, I'm not sure about tethering him to a fence. These guys can take off super fast, they are at top speed in an instant and he could do some serious injury to his neck if he is tethered.
I can't wait until you tell me he actually goes on the subway, it's so noisy down there. I hope he does well. Keep us all posted on all of his antics, and I sure hope he is done with the audio equipment.lol

Lovely photos John. Jester looks very relaxed and by the sounds of it doesn't need his muzzle. Perhaps he's trying to give you a hint to break out the guitar! and maybe he wants to be a musician or entertainer in his new life. You two look fabulous together.

Congrats. Gaga pinched a sausage a couple of days ago, too. We chased her down and got it back. Yesterday, I caught her with her nose in my spaghetti sauce, the naughty girl. She's really keeping us on our toes!

Good news everyone, So he had a tiny bit of a problem going down the stairs into the subway, he lost his rhythm and stumbled a bit. Also, he panicked a little when the subway train rumbled into the station, but he walked right into the train with me without any problems, I watched his legs carefully to make sure he didn't step into the 3 inch gap between the train and the platform. On the trip back home (about 3 hours later) there was less panting and nervous drooling; lots of looks from people and questions about adoption Sorry about the fuzzy pics

Way To Go Jester!!! I ride the subways in Toronto also and will look for you
torontojohn: Maybe it would be beneficial if you carried one of those "greyhound" business cards that have been mentioned on the forum - to entice more folks to go and have a look at the Greyhound Kennel and bring one home!!!

Hiya Whereabouts in the city are you located? I'm trying to get a few people together at High Park one of these days. Not a bad idea with the business cards, I'll have to dig them out from the board somewhere; It's amazing how many people ask about him. I guess having a greyhound the size of a minivan attracts some attention

torontojohn:
We live in Mississauga (Liza Jane as our boy Gable passed away in April) but I do ride the subway quite often to go into the city. High Park is quite a jaunt for us but I do know that there is a group on the Forum that get to-gether with their greys and walk through High Park and I believe they live in that area. I am sure they will be posting a notice soon.

Our little group gets together at Marie Curtis leash free every Sat and Sun around 8:30 a.m. We usually have the park to ourselves. On Saturday there is at least 4-5 hounds on Sunday sometimes only 1 but most times at least 2. I know it is further than High Park but the park is sand and they love to run on sand and are usually wiped out after 1/2 hour.

torontojohn, thank you for the awesome update on Jester. I love how you have taken notice of every little new experience/detail that Jester makes, you are so much aware of his needs and reactions to his new environment and I think that is amazing. No wonder I always refer to you two as a team ..... you both will be bonded to each other in the most wonderful way.

Man, your dog can go down the steps at the subway? One of these days, Jester's got to come by and show Gaga how it's done! Anytime Chryx! Just let me know and we can meet up. I think it's important that they get desensitized to noise first, my guy's ears were up that first week a lot, but it's a matter of walking them along busy roads and letting people pet them and give attention to make it a positive experience. The rumbling from the subway is pretty nasty until they can actually see where it's coming from, mine still raises an eyebrow when the train rumbles into the station (I make sure I have a hold of his regular collar, but keep it relaxed so I don't communicate stress) once he's aboard he pants a little but eventually settles in. Such is the life of a city dog I got him on a TTC bus this weekend when I went to meet up with another member, the subway was down so we had no choice. How's your girl doing?
