I've never seen this - only on my hounds not on the other two. I just noticed today and I will go to the vet if need be, just wanted to get input from others first... Maybe others have seen this before.
To me they look like bruises on their bellies... But they kind of look like a bullseye ... I thought maybe ringworm... But it's not a cut. It is literally like a bruise under the skin.
Let me know if any of you recognize this.
First two images are on Mayleigh, and the last image is on Addison.

I have never seen this, but they look more like a reaction to something than a bruise to me.

Jerry used to get something similar to this every spring. We took him to the vet and it turns out it was a staph skin infection, Just used a topical antibiotic on the spots for a couple of weeks. The spots always started near his groin and occasionally he got a spot on his side causing the fur to fall out just on that spot (the only reason I noticed it there) The vet said it's no big deal, just sometimes the normal skin bacteria gets out of balance resulting in a few bacterial sores. They didn't seem to bother him at all. Anyways, they looked pretty similar to your pictures, but I'd check with your vet!

Turns out it's a bacterial infection! Checked with a tech friend of mine and she thought it might be that. Took them in and there we have it! Thanks guys!

OMG...that is the exact same skin spot I found on my grey today! It's on his upper inner leg and doesn't appear to be bothering him. Thanks for the info.

I'm with Martha! Looks like black fly bites. Super common at this time of year. There are some really great natural insect sprays that will help keep them at bay. I found a great natural after bite product as well that makes those red spots feel better.

www.examiner.com/article/black-fly-bites Here is a short article about black fly bites, as well as a photo showing the bruise-like marks left by the black fly bite, looking very similar to Mayleigh and Addison's marks.

Thanks for the info and the article. Vet didn't do a skin scraping or anything but was fairly certain it was a bacterial infection and they are both on antibiotic cream for 2 weeks.
Are the bites raised? Cause they do look fairly similar but I would assume a bite would have some depth to them? These are skin level like a bruise would be...?

I believe there is no swelling with a black fly bite, the bite has caused the underlying skin to bleed causing the bruise like mark.

I believe there is no swelling with a black fly bite, the bite has caused the underlying skin to bleed causing the bruise like mark. True, in humans they can swell to quite a large size but with the dogs, they are flat. As you mentioned above, they kinda look like someone took a bullseye practice shot on their groins! I never notice any itchy with my dogs but with me, I take antihistimes regularly to help. At the end of the day, when it's time to come and and get cleaned up, I run cool/cold water under their bellies and around the groin thinking maybe that helps to soothe a bit. It's pretty warm under there! M p.s. did you ask your vet about blackfly bites?, and I would suggest they didn't to a scraping because they knew they didn't have to. perhaps they gave you some meds to be on the safe side?
