 Making Pictures smaller
« Thread Started on Mar 28, 2009, 6:44am »

I'm not sure if i have seen it on this forum or on GT...is there a way to post pics so that they show up small and people can click on them to get to 100% size?
My pics are always gargantuan!!!
Thx...

Don't know if this is helpful. I'm new to this too, but if your pictures are at photobucket you can choose an option when you upload to downsize your picture. However, that only makes it smaller, it doesn't allow for it to be clicked up to full size.

GT automatically resizes pictures and puts that banner up. Which is incredibly irritating, since the whole thing downloads first.

As Zarlock said, the best way to get smaller pics if you're using photobucket is to choose a smaller upload size. That won't give you the resize banner though.

There is at least one way to put up a thumbnail for people to click on--I've seen it used on GT--but I don't know what it is.

I went to Photobucket to see what my preferences were:

You can edit every single picture individually by clicking it, which brings you to the fun screen! One by one. Nuh huh! Not unless you're really editing the cr@p out of it, IMHO.

OR

I believe I found what you were looking for with respect to the thumbnail:

Scroll over the picture and a box appears. Click on Link options. It opens a window entitled Share IMG_###.jpg. Select Get link code tab. The fourth option is entitled IMG for bulletin boards or forums. You can select and copy the code from Clickable thumbnail.

When forum members are viewing, clicking on the picture opens up the Photobucket site to reveal its bigger version. This method appears to be on a picture by picture basis.

OR (the easiest option by far)

In the Upload Images & Video box, there's a Reduce to: dropdown menu. I've got mine set to 800 X 600 (15" screen). I think it's a nice size. You don't have to scroll to the right to see the whole picture. That way, we don't all have to run out and get a larger screen! ;)

I know you'll do the right thing and select the third option. ;)

I hope this helps!

Hi Emily:
When I went into Photobucket to the UPLOAD IMAGES & VIDEO BOX to change the size in the REDUCE TO menu it wouldn't take. It tried to force me into upgrading to PRO for $25.00 US. Did you buy the upgrade??

luv:

When in photobucket, click on the photo you want to resize. When it opens there will be a menu of sorts as long as your mouse pointer is on or touching the photo. Like this:

In the resize menu, select the size you want to change it to. Usually the next biggest is the best one, but it depends on what you plan to use the picture for. In this case, I would reduce the photo to Medium.

I hope this helps. :)

Oh! I see someone's been tinkering with the site!

Here's what I'm seeing:

Directly under the big blue box Upload images and videos, you'll now find Use CTRL to select multiple files (more options). Click more options.

It leads you to More upload options / Resizes images to:

In the left-hand side, you'll find Basic dimensions . Here's where you select 15" screen (800 X 600).

I suspect they try to get you to buy applications if you select from the right-hand side (Upgrade to pro dimensions). We're just not so picky that you'll need a pro package!

Click SAVE. If you can't see the bottom of the box, you need to press F11 to see the full screen. It just hides the bars. You can reinstate them by pressing F11 again once you're done.

Let me know if it makes sense and, more importantly, if it works. I was thinking of going back to my earlier post to update it.

Thanks Jenn & Emily: I'll work on this tomorrow and let you know if it works OK. I really appreciate the help, otherwise I'd be floundering.
